Vitamin D (called the sunshine vitamin) is produced naturally in the skin when it is exposed to the sun.  Our modern lifestyle keeps us indoors more and therefore almost everyone has a deficiency of vitamin D.  Proper levels of vitamin D are essential to strong bones and teeth.  Vitamin D also strengthens the immune system.  The National Institutes of Health stress that people over 50 generally need higher levels of vitamin D that those under 50.
